"Large fingers pushing paint, you're god and you've got big hands, the colors blend, the challenges you give man, seek my part, devote myself, my small self... like a book amongst the many on a shelf." X
NED probably doesn't realize it just yet, but he's the closest thing to Takeshi's father in this place. Perhaps not as open to the boy as Kaze is, perhaps a little less soft around children, but still heart-achingly familiar in the way he acts and moves: quiet, of few words, but observant and powerful. He's strong, Takeshi knows. Sometimes Netherlands is heavier in hand, but he's never, ever been like his mother's boyfriend. He's been caring. He's given him things he's never had before.
Most importantly, he's sat with him and talked. About things. Anything. He could lay with Netherlands and blabber on about all kinds of stuff, if the other wanted to listen. In a place like this, the welcoming arms of so many people have been a blessing; Ned is no exception. Intimidated by him? Sometimes. It's impossible not to be, when Netherlands means business.
But at the same time... he's like family. Not just a friend. Endeared to the little boy's heart, Netherlands is someone the child is more than willing to protect. Just like he'd protected his father.
